At the beginning of 2020, we’ve decided to shift our mindset and instead of just doing collaborations for the sake of collaborations we have decided that we should strive to have a meaningful impact on the industry we work in and approach every collaboration through an up-cycling lens.
After Covid hit, we have decided to take this direction to bigger brands and offer to customise their lost covid stocks instead of sending them to outlets. We started sending emails to brands that we appreciate and we think could benefit from our proposition and Levi's® were one of the first ones to reply to our inquiry, after almost 16 months, our up-cycling project launched last Friday.
The Levi's® by Adish collaboration blends iconic Levi's® pieces with traditional Palestinian craft techniques. This first partnership between the two brands is composed of deadstock Levi's® Chore jackets and Original 501® up-cycled through the application of Palestinian Tatreez hand embroidery and Bedouin hand weaving created by communities of artisans in occupied Palestine and Israel.
Each garment is unique and features patterns reflecting daily life in historic and contemporary Palestine: domestic items, farm animals, olive harvest, and life events such as marriage and mourning. Evoking sentimental memories of the smells, flavours, and sounds that inspire the Adish brand. The capsule collection includes four one-of-a-kind gender-neutral products including:
Levi's®501® Original jeans: Limited edition of the iconic Levi's® 501® reimagined by Adish. Featuring several embroideries representing various local geographical areas and a special green Levi's® Tab. Made of a cotton and hemp blend, available in classic ecru and indigo with bronze paisley all-over print.
Levi's® Chore Jackets: two variants of the classic Chore coat revisited by Adish and upcycled by female Bedouin artisans from different villages in the West Bank. Additionally, the ecru version has special indigo wool pockets handmade in the traditional bedouin technique.
To achieve the contemporary application of traditional Palestinian manufacturing techniques, we’ve partnered with the Lakiya Weaving Initiative, founded by the Sidreh organization based in the Negev Desert, with whom we’ve worked with since our Fall-Winter ’21 collection ‘Al Nasij’. The Lakiya Weaving Initiative functions as a means of personal and economic empowerment for women by applying their traditional weaving skills to manufacture and sale of woven products.
Besides incorporating weaving, the Levi's® by Adish collection is embellished with Tatreez embroidery, using a mix of traditional techniques inspired by the centuries-old art form practiced traditionally by women passed down from generation to generation as a symbol of resistance and strength in the Middle East. The line was manufactured in co-operation of nearly 50 artisans from different villages in the West Bank and occupied Palestine.
The Levi's® by Adish collection is available online now at our E-SHOP and also on Levi.com and in-store at Levi's® London Haus at 41 Great Marlborough St., and Levi's® Milan Pop-up stop at Via Vincenzo Capelli 1 as well as selected wholesalers worldwide.
