In the fall of 2019, Palestinian-American artist and ADISH partner Jordan Nassar presented the solo exhibition The Sea Beneath Our Eyes held at the CCA - Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv.
In addition to displaying Nassar’s own work, the exhibition comprised an assortment of items made in collaboration with local craftspeople, examining the contemporary demographic of Palestine/Israel through craftsmanship heritage and traditions, and investigating local issues of politics, geographical history, Orientalism, immigration and diaspora.
As a part of the activities that took place throughout the month of the exhibition, we worked with CCA in launching a one-weekend pop-up store inside the institution. All of the items sold at the pop-up were brought from the handcraft workshops we collaborate within Israel and Palestine, such as the Lakiya Weaving initiative, the Atfaluna Crafts organization in Gaza, and the Palestinian embroidery workshops in Bethlehem and Ramallah in occupied palestine.
In addition, we launched two exclusive T-shirts for the event, which include the CCA and ADISH branding as well as a unique hand-embroidered Palestinian pattern on the chest.
