Dover Street Market Fall-Winter ’20 Collection

For Fall-Winter '20 we debuted our year-long collaboration with a hand-weaving workshop in Gaza, in the form of an exclusive capsule collection for Dover Street Market London and Ginza. The workshop produces the most traditional fabric from the region - the Majdalwi fabric - which originated from the Palestinian village of Al-Majdal Asqalan.

After being depopulated in 1948, the craft disappeared as the village was turned into the Israeli city of Ashkelon, and today the Majdalawi weaving continues only thanks to the cultural preservation project run by the Atfaluna Crafts Society, a Palestinian NGO in Gaza City. Majdalawi weaving, as the technique is known, is woven by a male weaver on a single treadle loom, using black and indigo cotton threads combined with fuchsia and turquoise silk threads.

The capsule collection consists of eight products, including ADISH signature items such as the hand embroidery Logo T-shirt and the Lakiya handwoven Tassels Hoodie, which include Palestinian hand cross-stitched embroidery inspired by traditional patterns originating from the Gaza area, as well as jackets and trousers that incorporate the Majdalawi fabric and Bedouin hand-embroidery called A‘qided Gazeh, traditionally used as a seam stitch to connect the different pieces of fabric of a dress together in a decorative way or to bind pieces of rug together when looms were too thin.
